Garden Walk 2022
June 25, 2022 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT (Chicago Time)
We invite you to take a stroll through our gardens on Saturday, June 25.
And we look forward to welcoming you back to this popular summer event!
Bring a friend. Spend some time relaxing and finding ideas to try in your homescape. Capture ideas like pleasing plant combinations in ground or in containers, new or unusual trees or shrubs to add to the "bones" of your garden and how to handle water problems. Each garden description features our 1-2-3 education points. Each point matches a numbered stake in the garden highlighting a special attraction in that landscape. Plus there are valuable prizes donated by our generous sponsors below.
This year we're showcasing six outstanding & quite wonderful gardens!
And they're all clustered in and around Valparaiso. One internationally-acclaimed plant breeder's landscape you enjoyed 10 years ago; see how it's evolving and thriving! Another includes a lush collection of unusual cultivars, a koi pond and espaliered fruit trees. At another, see how to replace lawn with a variety of attractive groundcovers such as pachysandra, repeating beds of coral bells, ostrich fern and dead nettle.
For contrast, we've also included a pastoral high meadow of manicured lawns, formal boxwoods and pops of perennial color. And then there's a study in permaculture transforming the front yard into a micro prairie of native plants, trees, shrubs and grasses; it received a Bringing Nature Home Award from Shirley Heinze Land Trust. Finally, we invite you to enjoy one of Porter County's favorite public gardens where you may browse vibrant, redesigned and newly-installed beds. For a sneak peek at this year's gardens, click here.
SAVE THIS DATE: June 25, 2022. It's the day Garden Walk 2022 will thrive!
What Makes Our Walk Special
Northwest Indiana's premier garden walk is sponsored annually by the Porter County Master Gardeners Association and Purdue Extension Porter County. Not only is our Walk pretty, it’s also smart. We’re all about education and sharing. Our homeowners love to share their knowledge, and Master Gardeners are in the gardens to help answer your questions. Not only does your guide include a description of each garden, it features our 1-2-3 Education Points! Each point in the garden description matches a numbered stake in the garden that highlights a special attraction in each landscape.
You may wish to wear sturdy shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Cameras are permitted. Pets are not allowed. The Walk will take place rain or shine. Individual Gardens may not be stroller or handicapped accessible.
Until we have the joy of welcoming you to Garden Walk 2022 on Saturday, June 25, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, we wish you good health, encourage you to stay well and, most of all, to cherish some extra time in your garden!
